Thanks to increasingly fast speeds, the internet now allows engineers to stream mix sessions in real time to any connected listener. This means that client and engineer no longer have to be in the same room to finish music together. And just in time… (thanks COVID-19).

We were skeptical at first as to the efficacy of remote mixing as a concept. But after a few test runs (and ironing out a few bugs), we were convinced. In general, we prefer direct feedback from our clients when mixing their song. Usually, we use back and forth emails, or have the client attend the mix session. However, neither option is convenient, as they both require the time delay of email or travel. This is where our remote workflow really shines.

The Convenience Factor

AudioMover - our preferred audio streaming application

We use a plug-in from AudioMovers to stream the output of our recording equipment directly to a website. Anyone with the URL can listen to our work in near real time (think less than a second or two of delay) at full quality. This, coupled with a phone call, allows our clients to make mix decisions with us live and virtually “attend” the session anywhere with cell or wifi signal. And the benefits of this remote workflow outweigh simple convenience…

Chances are, the client has listened to a lot of music in their home environment. They’ve heard their favorite records there. They know what their music should sound like when they hear it there. Now, they can hear their music come to life in that environment in real time. Our remote mixing and mastering services allow us to eliminate the guesswork that comes with working in a room you’re unfamiliar with. No more getting home from the mix studio and wondering why the mix sounds different than it did there.

And in today’s day and age, remote mixing also eliminates all in person contact. A truly COVID friendly way to mix.
